The Darien Center is a new two-story residence for members of the Opus Dei that will serve as a center of spiritual formation for both members and non-members. Reverence for the Holy Eucharistic was the guiding principle for the oratory and this neo-classical design features a two-story volume articulated in the Nave by Doric pilasters supporting a continuous entablature and vaulted ceiling. The Sanctuary is framed by pilasters paired with Solomonic columns which project inward to accentuate the hierarchy of the space. The custom designed altar also serves as a base for the tabernacle and is framed by engaged Solomonic columns supporting a central arch and is accentuated by a stone reredos with a replica of Murillo's Holy Family. Recessed niches in the Nave frame the Stations of the Cross. The entrance is flanked by interior windows additional pilasters support a triumphal arch above the doors. |
