JNA received a silver medal award from the Association of Licensed Architects (ALA) for our design of the new accessible elevator entrance to Holy Name cathedral in Chicago, Illinois. The street level entrance and elevator addition was designed in the same Gothic style and with the same materials as the original historic structure built in 1874. The challenges of this project included the need to cut a lower level access path through the existing foundations of the existing 210 foot bell tower. The project also included new custom designed entrance doors, accessible bathrooms, a new ornamental terrazzo floor in the Nave with Gothic motifs, and an interior ramp up to the Sanctuary, making the entire Cathedral handicap accessible. |
